Jim believes that an authentic relationship with your therapist is the most beneficial component of therapy. Jim specializes in the "Person-Centered" methods of therapy, by meeting you where you are in life, not only in your struggles but also your strengths. Jim will work with you, at your pace and level of understanding, to overcome obstacles you may have to living the most fulfilling life possible.
Jim has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2009, and has worked in an acute care hospital, a day treatment school, and several residential treatment facilities for children and adolescents. Jim has been a therapist in private practice since 2014, where he serves children and families in foster care. Jim specializes in trauma therapy, including sexual abuse, depression and anxiety, and grief and loss. Jim works with boys and girls starting at age 3, through adolescence and the teen-age years, and into adulthood. Jim uses an eclectic approach to therapy, including play therapy, bibliotherapy, narrative therapy, art therapy, and existential psychotherapy. Jim also includes families and care-givers in the helping process.
Jim's favorite motto is "I can't promise to fix all your problems, but I can promise you won't have to face them alone". Jim describes his therapeutic relationship style as "authentic engagement". Jim creates a safe therapeutic environment, and provides genuine compassion to those he works with, as well as a sense of humor. (There are no rules that say therapy can't be fun sometimes...and laughter can be a potent curative factor!)
Jim will become an integral member of your overall treatment team, and coordinate services with school systems and other community providers, as these are often critical to the overall success of therapy.
Jim also provides Christian counseling upon request.
